The Gilroy Sports Park project is in full swing! This state-of-the-art sporting facility (slated to open in early 2007) has allowed The Don Chapin Company to shine in many areas of our expertise: concrete, underground utilities, paving and grading, etc. As of this update, we have installed the sewer, storm drain, domestic water, and recycled water utilities. Mass grading has been completed, and the bike trail (Uvas Creek levee) has been paved. Concrete is poured nearly every week, and our landscaping subcontractor is busy at work on the playing fields. Last week the large sports light masts were installed.

We are currently working to implement our Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan, using measures to prevent erosion and the transport of sediment from the jobsite. We’re working hard to bring this project to completion, allowing the City of Gilroy many years of enjoyment!!!

With the advent of spring, the Gilroy Sports Park project is in full swing! With all underground and grading activities essentially complete, our crews can concentrate on those features that will be most visible to park patrons, namely concrete roadways, landscaping installation, and best of all, the completion of the ball diamonds. Concrete pours are scheduled for the next several weeks, and as of this update, the parking lot is complete, and construction of the park entry is underway. Trees and shrubs are being planted daily, bringing a bit of life and vibrance to the park. Rust colored “Pac Bell Infield Fines” have been installed, and the intricate “sand channel” ball field drainage system is complete. Sod installation is a mere weeks away, and will make an astonishing difference to the park’s appearance. We continue work on Monterey Road that will transform the main park entry into a true showcase of the City of Gilroy. With an estimated finish of late summer (2006), this project is proving to be an exciting and successful job!
